MANILA, Philippines — American singer and actress Selena Gomez is releasing her first album in Spanish titled “Revelación” on March 12.
“Revelación, my first ever Spanish EP, is out March 12. Preorder it tomorrow at 9am PT,” Gomez tweeted Jan. 27 along with a photo in which she wears a red gown. Gomez previously dropped the first single from “Revelación” titled “De Una Vez” on March 12 followed by “Balia Conmigo,” which features Puerto Rican singer Rauw Alejandro, on Jan. 29.
In a separate Instagram post, the Texas-born singer of Mexican descent wrote that “this is the beginning of something I’ve wanted to explore for so long.”
In an interview with Apple Music where she talked about “De Una Vez,” Gomez shared that “there’s something about Latin music that globally just makes people feel things.”
“I think Spanish came very naturally to me … As far as being able to say, and speak, and roll my Rs, and do all of that, that’s already in me, thank goodness,” she said during the interview.
This is the first time in a decade Gomez is releasing her own work in Spanish. In 2011, she released “Dices,” the Spanish version of her popular hit single “Who Says” from her third studio album “When The Sun Goes Down.”
In 2018, she also collaborated with DJ Snake, Cardi B and Ozuna — the last two are of Latino descent — for the bilingual banger “Taki Taki” where she sings in Spanish and English. Even so, she was criticized for “not collaborating with Latinx artists before” and how her Spanish is “not being on par with the others.”
Still, Gomez has been very vocal in acknowledging her Latin roots. “I look at myself in the mirror every day and think, ‘Man, I wish I knew more Spanish,’” she said in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar in 2018.
