We’re looking for pitches with original reporting from journalists and writers. We’re particularly interested in exploring how the Philippines’ Spanish colonial past continues to shape and impact the present.

To give you an idea of what we’re interested in publishing, here’s a list:

  • Hard- or soft-news articles about the Philippines and its relationship to Spanish-speaking world. No news roundups and rewrites
  • Thought-provoking, first-person pieces from members of the Filipino diaspora in Spain and Latin America
  • Strong and sound opinion pieces on issues about colonialism, heritage and identity
  • Long-form and in-depth stories about Fil-Hispanic culture, history or heritage
  • Fun listicles about Fil-Hispanic culture

If you are interested in writing for us, please pitch an idea to [email protected] or [email protected]. Before sending your pitch, please read some of our articles to get a feel of our writing style. More importantly, please read our FAQs and ethics, policies and standards pages.

In your pitch, please tell us why the idea is timely and relevant, and whether the article will be in English, Spanish or both. Don’t forget to include your writing portfolio/clips.

We pay US$50 for stories of 700–1000 words, US$75 for articles of 1300+ words and US$130 for long-form pieces of 3000+ words.

Priority will be given to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and other people of color) and other marginalized voices. So if you’re a POC, please do tell us.

If the editor is interested, they will greenlight your pitch and assign you a deadline. The editor may not respond if the idea doesn’t fit, however.
