MANILA, Philippines — The Mexican navy ship Cuauhtémoc docked in Manila on Friday, Aug. 9, as part of a training cruise that includes Southeast Asia.

The ship was built in 1982 and has made voyages for Mexican cadets, visiting hundreds of ports around the world as a gesture of goodwill. The ship’s home port in Mexico is Acapulco, and its visit to the Philippines is reminiscent of the Galleon Trade, which for 250 years facilitated the exchange of goods, people, and ideas between America, Asia, and Europe, and whose legacy can still be found in Mexican and Filipino gastronomy and customs.

The ship will be open for public visits at Berth No. 5, Pier 15, South Harbor, Port Area, Manila, on the following schedule:

  • Aug. 9, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Aug. 9, 10, and 11, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

This is the ship’s second visit to Manila; the first was in 2017.
