La Jornada Filipina Ceases Operations After Five Years

After five years, La Jornada Filipina ceased operations on March 14, 2026.

La Jornada Filipina started off as a platform to cover stories about the Philippines and its connection to the Spanish-speaking world, to unearth narratives that traditional media never covers, and to provide a home for the forgotten Spanish legacy. We’ve written about and analyzed the rise of Spanish bilinguals in many call centers, the boom and bust of Spanish media in the Philippines, and the numerous cultural references to Spanish in everyday life in the Philippines.

La Jornada Filipina took a hiatus in 2025 to prepare for a rebrand, but it lacked the necessary resources. We’re grateful to our collaborators and readers for their support over the past five years.

Hasta la vista.
